Early this morning, BoingBoing posted a 60-second video shot by a customer in a Circuit City store on the last day the electronics giant would ever be open for business, depicting a surreal expanse of shelves and displays that have literally been picked clean of merchandise. What's amazing is that the store stayed open, and that customers kept coming in and milling around the store, even though there was absolutely nothing left to buy.
Well, almost nothing...
There was a single, lonely, dejected copy of the Batman-themed game Battle for Gotham City left for Leapfrog, an interactive digital learning toy for kids. After the store closed, employees most likely boxed it up and shipped it to the Island of Misfit Toys.
Apparently in an effort to wring every last cent out of its liquidation (in this case, 99 cents), Circuit City kept the store open in the hopes that someone would buy its Last Product Ever.
